The Severo Ochoa Building on the Miguel Hernández University campus will bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, companies and innovation managers for an event aimed at fostering partnerships and solutions in the health sector.

On 17 September 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Severo Ochoa Building at the Sant Joan d’Alacant Campus of Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) will host the 5th Alicante Open Innovation Forum in Health, Alicante Conexión Salud. The event, which has been recognised as being of Healthcare Interest by the Regional Ministry of Health, aims to showcase the province’s research talent and promote knowledge transfer to the business and healthcare sectors.

The event is jointly organised by the main organisations within the regional health R&D&I ecosystem: Fisabio’s Innovation and Transfer Area, the Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL), the Institute for Research, Development and Innovation in Biotechnology and Health (IDiBE), the UMH Knowledge Transfer Service, the Institute of Neurosciences (CSIC-UMH), the University of Alicante’s Office for the Transfer of Research Results (OTRI-UA), the science parks of UMH and Alicante, and the BIOVAL Cluster.

A space for open innovation and collaboration

Alicante Conexión Salud is conceived as a meeting forum designed to explore synergies, build strategic partnerships and promote collaboration opportunities among the different stakeholders in the socio-economic ecosystem. Its ultimate goal is to drive the development of innovative technologies and solutions that improve healthcare and patients’ quality of life.

Throughout the morning, leading professionals will share experiences, challenges and opportunities related to research and innovation management, connecting the scientific community with clinical practice, public administration and the business sector.

Plenary Session Programme

The plenary session will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the Severo Ochoa Building. One of the highlights of the programme is the participation of the AstraZeneca Innovation Hub, whose representatives will present initiatives such as ACCION, an accelerator for healthcare innovation projects developed in partnership with Wayra and Kunsen.

The event will also feature a round-table discussion in which researchers, representatives of biotechnology companies and innovation management experts will analyse the main challenges involved in technology transfer. In addition, various organisations from the province will present collaborative projects and technologies available in their portfolios.

Practical workshops and bilateral meetings

From 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., the Concepción Aleixandre Building will host two specialised workshops:

• “CPI ESCaPE” Workshop: Organised by Fisabio’s Open Science Unit, this workshop will use a portable escape-room methodology to train participants in the processes and skills required to promote Public Procurement of Innovation in healthcare.
• “Introduction to Biomedical Engineering: From Planning to Clinical Practice” Workshop: Delivered by the Joint Research Unit in Biomechanical Design and Manufacturing (BioFab Lab) of the University of Alicante and ISABIAL. It will combine a presentation of their clinical and research capabilities with a practical, interactive session using 3D-printed biomodels.

In parallel, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Concepción Aleixandre Building will provide a dedicated space for pre-scheduled bilateral (B2B) meetings, arranged through the Meeting Mojo platform.

Registration and confirmation of places

Places are limited. Registration must be completed using the official registration form provided by the organisers. Confirmation of places will be sent by email at the beginning of September. Once their attendance has been confirmed, participants will be able to access the platform to manage their schedule of bilateral meetings.
