Protecting to Progress: The Value of Industrial Property in Knowledge Transfer – Transferencia al Aire Podcast
13 October 2026
Transferencia al aire is a radio programme promoted by the UMH Knowledge Transfer Service. Our goal is clear and inspiring: to build strong bridges between researchers and the business community, whether in the public or private sector. We want to be the spark that ignites knowledge transfer, bringing research, development and innovation from laboratories and classrooms into the hands of those who can turn them into reality.
In this second episode, we address a key issue in making this journey possible: the protection of research results. Because innovation is not just about discovering things… it is also about knowing how to protect what has been discovered.
To explore this topic, we are joined by a leading expert: José Manuel Marhuenda, a lawyer specialising in industrial and intellectual property, with more than 25 years of experience in the sector and currently Business Development Director for the Levante and Andalusia regions at ClarkeModet. With him, we explore the benefits, challenges and key considerations involved in protecting knowledge, both at universities and in companies.
We discuss patents, trade secrets, copyright… but above all, we talk about how to turn knowledge into real value, preventing ideas from being forgotten in a drawer or used by others without acknowledgement.
An essential episode for anyone who believes that innovation should reach further. Because protection is not about closing doors… it is about opening the doors to knowledge transfer.
