Analytical, Biochemical and Metabolic Blood Techniques

Clinical Diagnosis and Advanced Metabolomics in Animal Health

Haematology, biochemical analyses to determine liver and kidney profiles, fatty acid, sugar and organic acid and amino acid profiles, and stress biomarkers (such as cortisol, C-reactive protein and Complement C3) are offered using blood samples of animal origin.

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION

A comprehensive service for haematological, biochemical and immunological analyses is offered. The laboratories are equipped with the necessary materials and the following equipment:

  • ADVIA 120 Haematology Analyzer for performing complete blood counts and determining white blood cell count, haemoglobin levels, haematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, platelet distribution width, mean corpuscular haemoglobin, mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration, red cell distribution width, platelet count, mean platelet volume, and the concentration and percentage of lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils.
  • VETSCAN analyser for determining biochemical parameters such as albumin, alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase, total bilirubin, total protein, globulin, glucose, creatinine, urea nitrogen, amylase, calcium, potassium, sodium, phosphorus, among others.
  • ELISA test reader for determining cortisol, C-reactive protein and TNF-α.
  • HPLC-MS and chromatograph for the determination of metabolites in blood or faecal samples.

TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS

Our technology can be applied across all sectors related to both production animals and companion animals or pets. Potential users include livestock companies, livestock farmers’ associations, veterinary services, pet shops and private individuals.

ADVANTAGES AND INNOVATIVE ASPECTS

A comprehensive blood analysis service is offered to assess the health status of animals.

Haematological and biochemical profile analyses are rapid, with results available within 24 hours. ELISA test results can be available within 72 hours.

The team offering the technology has extensive experience in using this equipment, supported by national and regional research projects, and the technology has already been used by companies in the sector.

DEVELOPMENT STAGE
