Air Quality Compliance Consultancy and Environmental Obligations Management

Air Quality Compliance Consultancy and Environmental Obligations Management

Reporting services to meet the atmospheric pollution inspection and monitoring requirements of public authorities, together with the necessary advice on compliance management. Specifically, the service includes measuring key air pollutants using the methods prescribed by current legislation; analysing their temporal and spatial evolution; identifying exceedances of statutory limit values; identifying pollution sources; and proposing measures to reduce or eliminate pollution.

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION

Measurement of key air pollutants using the methods prescribed by current legislation, and mapping of atmospheric pollutant concentrations across a geographical area using passive samplers.

  • Analysis of their temporal and spatial evolution.
  • Identification of exceedances of statutory limit values.
  • Identification of pollution sources using statistical methods and specially developed software.
  • Recommendations to reduce or eliminate pollution and improve air quality.

TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS

Public authorities: Public authorities are responsible for monitoring and controlling ambient air quality and, where necessary, improving the quality of the air people breathe. To fulfil this responsibility, they need to assess ambient air quality in public areas within population centres, both outdoors and indoors, as well as in protected rural areas of particular interest, such as natural parks and animal or plant reserves. These assessments help safeguard public health, prevent damage to property and protect wildlife and natural resources. Another key application is the assessment of real-world situations in which an air pollution reduction plan is needed to ensure compliance with regulatory standards or improve the quality of the air people breathe. The resulting information enables authorities to take appropriate action and implement strategies to reduce atmospheric pollutant concentrations that compromise ambient air quality. Private organisations (companies, schools, hotels, conference venues, entertainment venues, etc.): Today, all companies and public institutions are expected to have a comprehensive Health and Environmental Management Plan. Within these plans, air quality is likely to become increasingly important as new European regulations are implemented. As part of this comprehensive plan, organisations must ensure compliance with applicable regulations and verify that pollutant concentrations do not exceed specified limits within their own premises or in the immediate surrounding area, where pollutants may be generated by their activities. They therefore need to verify and document levels of pollutants identified in legislation as harmful when these are generated by their specific activities. These substances may be released outdoors, affecting public health, or present in indoor environments, with implications for the occupational health of employees. Assessing measured pollutant concentrations in these environments and identifying their specific sources provides the information needed to develop reduction plans for both outdoor emissions and workplace pollutants. The service can also help strengthen the corporate image of organisations committed to environmental improvement.

ADVANTAGES AND INNOVATIVE ASPECTS

The reports are backed by a multidisciplinary scientific team with proven experience in this field, together with the infrastructure and equipment required to carry out scientific and technical projects in air quality and atmospheric pollution. The work is conducted at Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), ensuring the scientific rigour required for the reports to be accepted by the relevant inspection and monitoring authorities. A tailored service adapted to each company’s needs.
