{"id":27870,"date":"2026-07-29T15:04:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T13:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/transferencia.umh.es\/?p=27870"},"modified":"2026-09-04T09:19:40","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T07:19:40","slug":"la-umh-presente-en-la-jornada-sobre-sostenibilidad-urbana-y-retos-de-la-economia-circular-en-elche","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transferencia.umh.es\/en\/2026\/07\/29\/la-umh-presente-en-la-jornada-sobre-sostenibilidad-urbana-y-retos-de-la-economia-circular-en-elche\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable Water Management and the Transition to a Circular Economy Take Centre Stage at Elche Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-27873 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/transferencia.umh.es\/files\/2026\/07\/aigues-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/transferencia.umh.es\/files\/2026\/07\/aigues-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/transferencia.umh.es\/files\/2026\/07\/aigues-1024x761.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/transferencia.umh.es\/files\/2026\/07\/aigues-768x570.jpg 768w, https:\/\/transferencia.umh.es\/files\/2026\/07\/aigues.jpg 1046w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Sustainable water resource management and the transition towards a circular economy were the focus of an event held on 29 June at the Mol\u00ed del Real in Elche, organised by Aig\u00fces d\u2019Elx, with the active participation of the Knowledge Transfer Service of Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche (UMH).<\/p>\n<p>The event provided the setting for the presentation of the <em>\u201cSustainable Development and Circular Economy Report in Elche\u201d<\/em>, a study assessing the state of the urban agenda at national and European level in order to identify good practices and trends that could be applied to the municipality. The study was prepared by the UMH Science Park (PCUMH), in collaboration with the UMH research group <em>Econom\u00eda, Pol\u00edtica i Desenvolupament Agroambiental i del Medi Rural<\/em> and the UMH Knowledge Transfer Service. It was presented by Bego\u00f1a Galiana, Business and Institutional Relations Officer at the PCUMH.<\/p>\n<h2>A diagnosis to support local action<\/h2>\n<p>The report analyses the sustainability situation in the municipality of Elche through three central pillars:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Municipal assessment:<\/strong> Evaluation of Elche&#8217;s current situation in terms of the circular economy and efficient resource use.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strategic alignment:<\/strong> Proposal of policies aligned with the Spanish Urban Agenda and European frameworks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Indicators and KPIs:<\/strong> Definition of key metrics to monitor actions in Elche and assess their potential applicability to other municipalities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Challenges in the water sector: an opportunity for UMH R&amp;D&amp;I<\/h2>\n<p>During the event, Aig\u00fces d\u2019Elx presented its new <em>Innovative Public Procurement (IPP) Guide<\/em> and provided details of the <em>Preliminary Market Consultation (PMC)<\/em> focused on <em>\u201cAdvanced treatment of pollutants and comprehensive resource valorisation in the water cycle\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The challenges identified by the water utility provide an ideal opportunity to connect the sector&#8217;s needs with the scientific and technological capabilities of UMH research groups.
